this was right after a street event in hanoi, vietnam..
at first, i was only going to show the hectic traffic, but then i realized i had to cross the intersection, so i did..

ps: i wasn't really paying attention to the traffic!

a principio, eu so' ia filmar o transico caotico, mas depois eu lembrei que tinha que atravessar o cruzamento.. entao la fui eu..

rtw numbers: distances and places

- i traveled a total of almost 40,000 miles (63,000km):
33,000 miles (53,000km) by air
6,000 miles (10,000km) by land
450 miles (700km) by water 

that's about 8 round trips from los angeles to new york, or from the oiapoque to xui (you won't get this if you're not brazilian)..

that is also 1.5 times the circumference of the earth (at the equator)..

- i visited 4 continents, 15 countries, around 70 cities/towns/villages..

- the average time spent was 1.5 days in each city/town/village..

- the longest stay was in kuta (bali, indonesia), for 8 days..
i don't know the shortest.. there were places i visited for only a few hours and moved on..

- the cleanest places were new zealand, australia, hong kong and greece
the dirtiest were asia in general (minus singapore), and egypt..

- immigration/customs took a while in australia and indonesia;
they gave me some trouble in vietnam and hong kong;
the easiest and quickest were in thailand and greece..
 
- ideal places for partying: anywhere with a bunch of backpackers! but really, queenstown (new zealand), vang vieng (laos), nha trang (vietnam) and bali (indonesia) were my favorites..

isso e' o equivalente a 8 viagens de ida e volta de los angeles a nova york, ou do oiapoque ao xui'... 

essa distancia tambem e' o equivalente a uma volta e meia na terra (pelo equador) 

- visitei 4 continentes, 15 paises, por volta de 70 cidades e vilarejos.. 

- passei uma media de 1.5 dias em cada cidade / vilarejo..

- o lugar onde fiquei por mais tempo foi kuta (bali, indonesia), por 8 dias..
eu nao sei onde fiquei por menos tempo.. em alguns lugares, so' estive por algumas horas e segui viagem.. 

- os lugares mais limpos foram nova zelandia, australia, hong kong e grecia
os mais sujos foram a asia em geral (exceto singapura), e o egito.. 

- a imigracao demorou bastante na australia e na indonesia;
eles me deram trabalho em vietnam em hong kong;
e foram muito faceis e rapidos na tailandia e na grecia.. 

- os melhores lugares pra se fazer festa: qualquer um com um monte de mochileiros! mas de verdade, queenstown (nova zelandia), vang vieng (laos), nha trang (vietnam) e bali (indonesia) foram meus favoritos..

q: what was your favorite country?
a: hard to answer.. there are so many different things to like: the beauty, the culture, the history, the locals, the parties, the other travelers you meet.. if i really had to choose one country, i guess it would be fiji, because it has a beautiful landscape, a rich culture and history, the locals were amazingly hospitable, the parties were hardcore, and the other travelers were all cool people... AND it was the first country of this trip, which adds the element of first impact..

q: why did you chose to travel by yourself?
a: at first i was gonna travel with a friend, but he is a pussy and gave up.. so i had no choice, but i think in the end it was actually better.. i had more flexibility with my plans, i could do whatever i felt like.. and to be fair, pretty much every single place i went to, i met good people and ended up hanging out with them, or even traveling around for a few days.. staying in backpacker hostels was the best way to meet people.. i can say i was by myself only when i felt like having some 'me time'..

p: qual foi seu pais favorito?
r: dificil responder.. tem tantas coisas diferentes pra se gostar: a beleza, a cultura, a historia, os locais, as festas, os outros viajantes que voce conhece... se eu realmente tivesse que escolher um pais, acho que seria fiji, porque e' um lugar com lindas paisagens, rico em historia e cultura, os locais foram muito amigaveis, as festas foram otimas e os outros viajantes que encontrei eram todos gente boa... E foi o primeiro pais dessa viagem, o que ajuda um pouco pelo primeiro impacto.. 

p: por que voce decidiu viajar sozinho?
r: a principio eu ia viajar com um amigo, mas ele deu pra tras... entao eu nao tive escolha, mas acho que no final foi ate' melhor... eu tive mais flexibilidade com meus planos, pude fazer o que tivesse vontade.. e pra ser justo, em praticamente todos os lugares que fui, sempre encontrei pessoas otimas pra bater um papo, sair pra festas ou ate' mesmo viajar juntos por alguns dias... ficar em albergues foi a melhor maneira de encontrar pessoas.. eu posso dizer que so' estive sozinho quando quis ter um 'tempo pra mim'..

ok, i know i promised a lot of new stuff here... the past few weeks i've been organizing information, working on pictures, selecting videos, calculating numbers and trying to fix the layout of the blog (i wasn't very successful with the last one though..) 

so starting tomorrow, i'll try to post something new every two or three days.. and i'm gonna try to use the following categories (as you can see on the sidebar):

faq: the answers to the frequently asked questions about the rtw trip

quickies: mostly one liners, some with useful info, some with curious facts, and a whole lot absolutely useless!

travel journal: transcripts of memorable days taken from my travel journal

and i guess that's it for now..

eu sei que prometi muita coisa nova aqui... nas ultimas semanas, estive organizando informacoes, trabalhando em fotos, selecionando videos, calculando numeros e tentando arrumar o layout do blog (nao tive muito sucesso nesse ultimo..)

entao comecando amanha, vou tentar postar alguma coisa a cada dois ou tres dias... e eu vou tentar usar as seguintes categorias (que tambem estao na barra lateral):

news and more

another week went by and i didn't really do much of what i was supposed to.. i should be working big time on the photos from the trip, but i've been lazy, so on that department, no news yet..

what i do have news about is that barcelona, paris and lisbon are confirmed, tickets (for the shows and for the flights) are all bought, and now it's just wait, then r0ck!

also (the big news, i guess), just booked my ticket to brazil... yeah, after 5 and a half years, i'm going to brazil in mid july, and will stay there for a couple of months, while my spanish student visa is processed..

i am excited to see friends and family again, but honestly, i'm terrified too! i never planned going back to brazil, even though i always knew i would have to at some point.. the thing is... 2 months? what the hell am i gonna do there in two months without money (mine is gone after the trip)?

well, let's wait and see, one step at a time..

oh, and blog news as well.. on the sidebar there, there's the categories now.. makes it easier to find a specific post or to read about one subject.. it's not fully functional yet, but it will be soon.. i still have some tweaks to make, but it's ok for now..

so let me go work on those pictures.. or play online poker.. gee, that's a dilemma!

mais uma semana se foi e eu nao fiz muito do que deveria ter feito.. eu deveria estar trabalhando pesado nas fotos da viagem, mas eu tenho sido preguicoso, entao nao tenho noticias nesse assunto ainda..

mas eu tenho noticias sobre barcelona, paris e lisboa: os tickets estao comprados (os dos shows e os dos voos tambem!), e agora e' so' esperar, e depois r0ck!

e tambem (a grande noticia, eu acho), acabei de comprar minha passagem pro brasil.. e', depois de 5 anos e meio, irei ao brasil no meio de julho, e vou ficar la por uns 2 meses, enquanto meu visto de estudante espanhou estara' sendo processado..

estou animado de ver amigos e a familia, mas honestamente, estou com medo! eu nunca planejei voltar ao brasil, mesmo sempre sabendo que eu teria que voltar alguma hora.. mas.. por 2 meses? o que eu vou fazer la em 2 meses e sem dinheiro (o meu acabou depois da viagem)?

bom, vamos esperar e ver.. um passo de cada vez..

ah, e tenho noticias do blog tambem.. na barra lateral, agora tem as categorias.. fica mais facil achar um post especifico ou ler sobre algum assunto.. nao esta funcionando perfeitamente ainda, mas em breve sim.. eu ainda tenho que fazer uns ajustes, mas por enquanto esta ok.. 

entao deixa eu ir trabalhar aquelas fotos... ou jogar poker... ah que dilema!
